PARQUE NACIONAL DA GORONGOSA ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC TENDER FOR ECOTOURISM

Mar 3, 2011 - Gorongosa National Park

The Ministry of Tourism of Mozambique (MITUR) and the Gorongosa Restoration Project (GRP) are pleased to announce the winners of the international tender conducted to select tourism operators to establish ”Green Safari Camps” in selected areas within the Parque Nacional da Gorongosa.  A number of Bidders including companies from Mozambique, South Africa, and Portugal submitted Technical and Financial proposals for extensive evaluation by a team comprised of Park Employees and MITUR observers.

The following qualified operators were selected and will soon be offering; luxury lodging, game viewing, birding and other activities in one of the most spectacular and storied settings in all of Southern Africa:

•    Barra Lodge Lda
•    One Africa Limitada
•    Nwedzi Investimentos Lda
•    Xivulo Lda

MITUR and the GRP look forward to teaming with them to build one of the fastest growing tourism areas in Mozambique.  These new camps and lodges will be built adhering to the Park’s strict ecological policies and will be among the “greenest” structures in Africa.  The new facilities will supplement two already successful tourism operations that have been hosting tourists and visitors for some time:

- Chitengo Camp offers cabanas, and a camping area.  Services include an extensive game drive network, restaurant, pools, gift shop, walking trails and other safari activities.  See Gorongosa Tourism for details.

- Explore Gorongosa operates exclusive walking safaris based out of the comforts of a luxurious custom-designed tented camp. See Explore Gorongosa for details.

The Mozambican Ministry of Tourism and the Gorongosa Restoration Project wish to congratulate the winning Bidders and will work to ensure that all projects meet the Park's high ecological standards for protecting the ecosystem and generating local employment while establishing a sustainable tourism industry.
