President of the National Elections Commission visits GNP

The president of the National Elections Commission (NEC), João Leopoldo da Costa, carried out a tourist visit (in an official capacity) in Gorongosa National Park (GNP) from the night of the 1st to the 2nd of July.  He was on his way to the northern province of Zambézia to execute preparations and campaign circuits for the upcoming election in October.
 
João Leopoldo da Costa and his entourage of more than 10 included the spokesperson of the NCE, Jeremias Timana; the president of the Provincial Elections Commission  (PEC), Prakash Perland; the provincial director of the Technical Secretariate of Electoral Administration (TSEA), Celso Chimoio Sousa; field assistants, logistics personnel, and security guards.  The group was received in Chitengo tourist camp by members of the administration of the GNP Restoration Project on the 1st of July.

The director of the GNP Conservation Department, Dr. Carlos Lopes Pereira, using a pamphlet showing the internal communication structures of the Park, gave a brief explanation to the prominent visitor.  In order to transmit information about the existing biodiversity in the Great Gorongosa region, he spoke about the range of wildlife, species of animals and their distribution inside protected areas, as well as describing the varied ecosystems that characterize the Park.

The next day, the president of the NEC took advantage of the privilege to go on safari to get to know the flora and fauna of the Park close up, before continuing on his journey. 

Before leaving, João Leopoldo da Costa, left the following message in writing in the GNP visitors’ book: "In my personal name and on behalf of colleagues that accompany me, I congratulate the administration and staff of the Park on the warm welcome, quality of the meals and the condition of the lodging". 
He finished, wishing everyone: "successful voting!”
