Celebrating the victory
The Chitengo Lions, club team sponsored by Gorongosa National Park, captured the 2008 Gorongosa District Soccer Championship on Sunday, beating the Eduardo Mondlane Secondary School, which is located at district headquarters, by a score of 1-0 in the 18th game of the tournament.
The Lions demonstrated on Sunday afternoon their superior organization, cohesion, teamwork and, above all, audacity in the most essential moments of the game. They won on the field of the Executive Council of Gorongosa Village against the students of the secondary school named for the architect of Mozambican national unity. The score was 1-0 in extra time, as regulation time ended in a scoreless tie.

The Lions' goal was scored by Luciano João Bene, number 9, five minutes into the first period of extra time.
According to the team's coach, Roberto Carlos, the Chitengo Lions certainly deserve the top spot in the Gorongosa District Soccer Championship. The Lions' coach liked the attitude of his team and highlighted the brilliant moments in the second half of the game, as well as the first 15 minutes of extra time, when the game's only goal was scored.
"Any soccer game has moments of greater or lesser passion," he explained. "What happened on the field of the Executive Council of Gorongosa Village was a good soccer game. In the first half, we had an exhibition of a game with less objectives, followed by a period marked by a high level of play, intensity and good organization."

At the same time, Coach Carlos also congratulated players for the wonderful show they put on for all soccer lovers and GNP workers.
He took the opportunity to thank the public who showed up to watch the game on Sunday. Those who didn't want to show up at the Executive Council field yesterday to watch the Gorongosa Lions play Eduardo Mondlane Secondary School are surely regretting their decision. The two teams played a game full of emotion, marked by dramatic ups and downs that didn't show up on the score board. Throughout, the Lions almost always maintained the upper hand.
"I sincerely congratulate everyone who is here today, especially my players for their beautiful work and sacrifice. I dedicate this conquest to all those who believed in my work," Carlos emphasized.
Roberto Carlos used the following players in the win: Salvador, Tomás, Miguel, Faustino, Chano, China, Castigo, Félix, Tagara, Luís, Lino, Bebe, Lúcio, Nelson, Paulo, Carlitos, Jorge, Mussa and Zito.
