37 adolescents and young orphans and vulnerable children originating from the city of Beira visited Gorongosa National Park (GNP) this weekend.
The visit aimed to provide for the group that lives in the social conditions of orphanhood in the “Destino de Salvação” Orphanage, after the death of one of their parents or of both parents, normally victims of several illnesses with particular relevance for HIV/AIDS.
This was an occasion of some contact with Nature to motivate them to have a greater love for it and respect for the wildlife of Mozambique.
On the other hand, according to the one in charge of the Orphanage, Daúce Tiago Bonga, the retreat financed by the Italian Cooperation had in mind to "provide practical competences in the matter of environmental conservation for the participants".
"We brought them to the Park as form of uniting the theoretical knowledge that they acquired in school about the environment with the practical reality and it was very good", he added.

The 37 youth that visited GNP, in the company of three social workers, was made up of students from 3rd to 11th grade in the National System of Education in several public schools from the provincial capital of Sofala, with help given by the boarding institution through its cooperation partners.
Located in the neighborhood of Manga, in the city of Beira, the “Destino de Salvação” Orphanage has been open since 2001, containing, at the present, 40 orphans and vulnerable children of both sexes.
