Communities

The restoration of Gorongosa National Park promises to improve the lives of people living near the park and to generate economic development in central Mozambique. For this to succeed, local communities must be included in the project and our work must be compatible with the objectives of every level of Mozambican government.

Our Department of Community Relations works with local communities in four principle ways:

  • Economic Development - We provide training, create jobs, introduce sustainable agriculture methods, and support projects developed by the communities themselves.
  • Health and Social Development - We help communities improve their health and education programs and we help individuals understand their legal rights.
  • Conservation Education - We advocate for nature conservation and sustainable community development. As part of that effort, we are building a conservation education school for local children.
  • Planning - We are conducting a socio-economic baseline survey to measure changes in local living conditions over time. We are also helping local communities map their boundaries so they can establish and defend their land rights.

Build a School

nullTo reach our goal of building 100 schools, we need your help. Every school that is built will give more children an opportunity for a better future.
