Nhanguo community is located between the Park's western boundary and National Highway Number One (EN1), the road that passes by the Park entrance gate.
People in Nhanguo farm and raise livestock; they also sell honey and tree charcoal along EN1.

Community Land Surveys
Communities in the Sustainable Development Zone (Buffer Zone) of the Park can secure legal title to their land. To do this, they need to engage in a process where their traditional boundaries are demarcated (borders identified and agreed upon with neighboring communities). This information is then registered with the provincial government. The communities also need to organize themselves as an "association" so that they legally exist, can open bank accounts, form a village council, enter into contracts and more. We are helping Nhanguo to engage in these organizational activities in conjunction with local non-governmental organizations.
Family Goals Program
In a pilot project in Nhanguo we are gathering information about local health, sanitation, and family economics and providing local incentives to conserve community land and watersheds. Community members do most of the research and then work with us to help families develop specific goals to improve their well-being and protect the environment. If they meet their goals, they are provided with useful things like bicycles, water pumps, or materials to build new houses.
