Greg Carr

President, Carr Foundation

Idaho Falls, ID (USA)

I was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho, a small town in the Rocky Mountains of the western United States, the youngest of seven children. I have always loved the outdoors, what it has to teach me and how it makes me feel. I now spend more than six months of every year in Mozambique. I work with a dedicated team of Mozambicans and international people using conservation biology to restore and protect the Gorongosa ecosystem. We hope to attract many tourists to the Park not only because this magical place will enrich the visitors but also because their presence and activity will create much-needed economic activity in central Mozambique.

Bernardo Beca Jofrisse

Oversight Committee

Zambezia Province (Moçambique)

My name is Bernardo Beca Jofrisse and I am retired from the Army, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. I was born in Luabo, District of Chinde, in Zambezia Province. As a young man working in the city of Beira, I had the opportunity to work for the popular newspapers "Noticias da Beira" and "Diário de Moçambique". By 1969, after working briefly for the Mozambique Railway Company, I took up the cause of national independence and fought alongside many brave Mozambicans in FRELIMO. My war operations base was the Province of Tete, while providing assistance to the Provinces of Manica and Sofala. After the Independence of my Country, in 1975, I continued my service in the army, while also studying civil engineering at Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo.

As an engineer, I have extensive experience in the actual reconstruction of my country, and I see my participation in the Gorongosa Restoration Project as a wonderful opportunity to expand upon this role. I have a deep love for nature, particularly for the beautiful forests of my country.

In 2007 I assisted to a Natural Resource Protection Course at the Southern African Wildlife College, before being designated as the representative of the Ministry of Tourism at the Oversight Committee of Gorongosa National Park.

I am proud to serve on the Oversight Committee alongside Mr. Greg Carr and I see a very fruitful relationship in the future between the highly motivated team of the Carr Foundation and the Ministry of Tourism.
