Hendrik PottHendrik Pott

Chitengo Sales Manager

Maputo (Mozambique)

Hendrik Pott is the Sales Manager for Chitengo Safari Camp at Gorongosa National Park.  Born and raised in Maputo, Pott left Mozambique in 1976 for Portugal to finish his diploma in an Administration and Commerce course. In 1982, he attended a Hotel and Restaurant Management Specialization Course in Switzerland that led to work for more than 10 years in some of the best hotels in Switzerland.  Mr. Pott moved to Australia where he worked at The Hilton on the Park Melbourne Hotel and Le Meridien at Rialto Melbourne Hotel. These opportunities, along with his language skills and breadth of cultural knowledge provided him with excellent experiences of some of the best hotels in the world.

Mr. Pott first learned about Gorongosa National Park at school growing up.  He knew it was a place where people could see a lot of wild animals, but he was never able to visit Gorongosa because he was living in Maputo.
In early 2006 Hendrik learned about the Carr Foundation’s work to rehabilitate the Park and decided to apply for a job.  Mr. Pott soon joined Gorongosa National Park’s Restoration Project as a Chitengo Safari Camp Manager.

Today as the Sales Manager for Chitengo Safari Camp, he books itineraries, assures that guests’ needs are met, and works with staff to keep Chitengo running smoothly. It is Mr. Pott’s understanding of how tourism works in other parts of the world that best informs his work at Chitengo.

Adolfo Agostinho Carlos Macadona

Tour Guide

Mopeia, Zambezia Province, Mozambique

My name is Adolfo Macadona and I was born in Mopeia in Zambezia Province, Mozambique. I have had numerous professional experiences beginning with the military where I was a Battalion Logistics Officer in 1982 and 1983. After that, my civilian experiences include Assistant Technician for the second Budget, Purchasing Officer, Salesperson in a clothing store, Warehouse Manager, Census Worker and Food, Distributor for refugees, Data Collector in villages, Trainer of Data Collection Teams, Community Official, and Nature Guide for tourists

I am proud to be Mozambican. I feel it is my duty to serve my country, and furthermore to contribute to the development of the region where I have lived for almost 40 years. Besides this, I am also following in the footsteps of my father, who dedicated most of his life to conservation and to Gorongosa Park.

The new profession that I now have is thanks to the opportunity provided by this project. It’s a pleasing profession that I enjoy quite a bit and my dream is to continue my professional development so that I can contribute qualitatively to this Park in order to respond to great expectations and future challenges.

GO GORONGOSA!!!

Quisito Servente

Receptionist

Beira (Mozambique)

My name is Quisito Colher Servente and I work at the reception desk at Gorongosa National Park.  I am from the city of Beira in Sofala Province in central Mozambique.  I am an admirer of tourism; in 2001 I spoke with an English tourist crossing the Zambezi River who told me about the discoveries, advantages, and opportunities that tourism offers to a determined country and inspired me to pursue a career in tourism.  I have been lucky to participate in various training courses to gain experience in reception and restaurant hospitality and in hospitality management in general.

I started my work at Gorongosa National Park as a waiter in the restaurant, and worked in that capacity for 3 months.  I was promoted to a position in tourism reception in mid-2007.  In this role, I work in the “front office” reception at Chitengo for the department that manages tourism at the Park.  I am responsible for managing the daily arrival and departure of tourists at the Park, welcoming all of our visitors, and managing bookings.  At the reception desk, we are the logical contact point for distributing information to visitors and other people within the Park, so we do our best to keep everyone informed and up to date.

I look forward to welcoming you to Gorongosa National Park!
