Research and Monitoring for Adaptive Management
To fully understand the complex Gorongosa ecosystem, we are developing a solid foundation of scientific knowledge. We use that baseline research to monitor systemic change over time and observe the effects of our management actions. We continually evaluate those effects and adapt our strategy accordingly.

Environmental Impact Assessments
Gorongosa National Park is changing dramatically as we build new infrastructure for staff and design new facilities, roads, and other structures to accommodate tourists. We conduct detailed environmental impact assessments to guide the design and management of those activities, in order to minimize their impact on the Gorongosa ecosystem and communities around the Park.

GIS and Database Management
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow analysis of information about the earth gathered with global positioning systems (GPS) and satellite technology. We use GIS to create accurate maps and analyze many kinds of data that can be displayed geographically. Our department organizes and stores the data and makes it available to qualified researchers.

Conservation and Sustainable Development Planning
We are facilitating a formal process that will allow Park employees and other stakeholders to develop an official Park Management Plan. Our role is to ensure that all relevant information is gathered and fully integrated with the plan and that we enjoy smooth communication and logistics throughout the process.
