Tourism

Gorongosa National Park has a seasonal shutdown from 12 December 2011 until end of March, 2012.  This is due to heavy rains which make movement by car difficult (even 4 WD).

From April, 2012 Girassol Gorongosa Lodge & Safari will be open for visitors, birding walks, hotel and camping accommodations, restaurant meals and swimming. Available activities include trips to Mount Gorongosa, community visits, walks at the Community Education Center and the Bué Maria lookout.

Come and enjoy the Gorongosa National Park in its lush splendor and you will be directly participating in one of the greatest restoration projects in Southern Africa and see firsthand how rapidly and positively nature responds when given a bit of help and space from mankind.

During your stay you will enjoy multiple game drives and  see the expanding game population which has increased 39% in just the past 3 years!  You will also enjoy community walks and can choose to visit Mount Gorongosa and help with the reforestation efforts currently underway.

You may assist our forestry team in planting trees and hear how the rainforests on top of the mountain play an essential role in the health of the lower park area 20 Kms away.

The Conservation Contributions from your visit will directly fund these long term restoration efforts.

For further information please e-mail us at contact@gorongosa.net or call our reception office at (+258) 23535010 / (+258) 823020604.

See you in Gorongosa in 2012!
